the continued tepid demand in both commercial

Second quarter 2012 revenues increased $100.8 million, or 7.4%, to $1.47 billion compared to revenues of $1.37 billion in the second quarter of the prior year.  Core revenue growth was 5.5%, with acquisitions adding 3.6% and currency translation reducing reported revenues by 1.7% when compared to the prior year.  For the quarter, the book-to-bill ratio was 102%, resulting in a backlog that is 20% above the December 31, 2011 backlog.  The order rate slowed during the quarter with the June book-to-bill ending at 98%.  Growth remained solid in the United States and developing markets where businesses selling into key growth markets such as industrial, utility, and oil & gas, more than offset the continued tepid demand in both commercial and residential construction markets.

Core growth for the United States and Canada was 6%, reflecting the continued favorable growth trends in the industrial and utility end markets.  The North American lighting business showed mid-single digit core growth driven by continued adoption of LED technology and demand for energy efficient products.

Even in a shifting and uncertain environment in Western Europe, core growth was up 1.3%, which was the result of outstanding execution and highlights the breadth of the Company's exposure to large industrial and energy projects.  In addition, the distribution of the Company's European revenue is more weighted to Germany, France, United Kingdom and Northern Europe which benefited the quarter.  Commercial product activity was negative as a result of the continued weakness in commercial end markets.

Core growth for developing markets was 8%.  Latin America, Australia and the Middle East experienced strong double-digit core growth due to continued demand related to large global energy projects, while China experienced slightly negative core growth, reflecting the slowdown in industrial project activity and consumer-related end markets.

the program will especially ease pressures from high inventory in LED chips

Liu Liang, an analyst at Industrial Securites has pointed out that subsidies for LED industry would have similar effect, and the industry chain will benefit from the policy. While the general lighting market, which includes lighting sales, manufacturing, and home appliances, would also be stimulated. China was reported excessive production capacity in LED industry, the program will especially ease pressures from high inventory in LED chips.

In order to improve the quality of LED lighting subsidies’ beneficiaries, China’s National Development and Reform Commission plans to restart the bidding for the SSL Lighting Product Subsidy. On July 25-26, the commission will accept withdraws from companies that have entered the bidding in February, which is good news for Taiwanese upstream and midstream LED firms.

According to LEDinside survey, the new bidding forbids companies to jointly bid, which is good for large-scale companies and will help keep the bidding price and the quality close, and therefore, Taiwanese companies with focus on the upstream and midstream will have an edge in the bidding. It is estimated that the subsidy amount for the new bidding may amount to at least RMB 1 billion.

LED-related stock prices began to rebound since last week – aside from Everlight (2393) stock price dipped 0.74%, stock prices of Epistar (2449), Lextar (3698), Unity Opto (2499), Formosa Epitaxy (3061) and Genesis Photonics (3383) have seen increases in the past week. In particular, Epistar’s stock prices went up 4.24% in the past week, the strongest among the peer companies.

thereby delivering both aesthetic appeal

New linear fluorescent fixtures from GE Lighting will increase energy efficiency by nine percent and extend re-lamp cycles by 10 percent. Walgreens achieved greater energy efficiency by switching from 28-watt to new 25-watt GE F25 T8 linear fluorescent tubes. Though the difference in wattage is only three watts per light, the change means thousands of dollars saved as it impacts more than 4.3 million lights at nearly 7,000 stores.

Walgreens was recently recognized with GE's annual 'Retailer of the Year' award in 2011 for demonstrating how energy-efficient lighting can improve the visual aesthetics of a store. The nation's largest drugstore chain is also GE's largest employer of F25 technology.

one of North America’s most experienced and knowledgeable manufacturers of outdoor lighting, will be showcasing several new LED luminaire solutions at The LED Show 2012 in Las Vegas, NV on July 31 through August 1. Each of the luminaires incorporates the most current light engine technology configured with Sentry’s time honored, historically-styled luminaire designs, thereby delivering both aesthetic appeal and the benefits of LEDs.

This powder can then be used to print the nanothreads of led high bay light

This is the first time anyone has been able to build electronic and photonic inorganic semiconducting components directly on paper using chemical methods,” says professor Magnus Willander, who is leading the research. The article has been published in Wiley’s physica status solidi -- Rapid Research Letters.

In one of the thesis’ other articles, published in Springer’s Journal of Material Science, Gul Amin shows how it is possible to grow Zn02 nanothreads on paper, blow them off the surface using ultrasound, and collect them in the form of a powder. This powder can then be used to print the nanothreads of led high bay light, and thus LEDs, on paper or plastic in a normal printing press. The method has patents pending, with an application by Gul Amin along with Ecospark (also in Norrk?ping) and Acreo (Kista, Sweden).

Since Zn02 is an n-type natural semiconductor (with a surplus negative charge due to defects in the material), Gul Amin combined Zn02 with p-type copper oxide (surplus positive charge) to create several different types of electrochemical sensors.

Following his doctorate, Gul Amin returned to his native Pakistan to pursue his research, but at the Physical Electronics and Nanotechnology group the potential of Zn02 is being further explored, in combination with graphene, copper oxide, and other materials.

the product is available in bulk quantities

LED have a very long life because in most cases, the lifetime is based on the life of the driver. And as this LED doesn't have one, it is not affected by this, but by the chip lifetime. And the price of its AC LED is similar to that of a DC LED.With a new production line currently under construction, the product is available in bulk quantities and sample orders are also accepted.

Recently, LED display manufacture Shenzhen Sinolight Optoelectronics has announced to bankruptcy due to its current difficulties in securing SME loans. The company had assets in excess of RMB 100 mln and a staff of more than 400 people. According to the company's financial manager, to a great extent, the company's bankruptcy was the result of current difficulties in securing SME loans.

According to ElectroniCast Consultants' report, entitled “LEDs Used in General Lighting : Global Market Forecast and Analysis (2011-2021) ", only 10% of the LEDs used in General Lighting were attributed to Interior lamps in 2011. However, by 2021 the relative market share of LEDs in Interior lighting is forecast to reach 39%.

The firm also says the worldwide volume of packaged LEDs in solid-state lighting general lighting will reach nearly 4.6 billion units in 2012.

the demand for the local LED industry

In March 2010, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui announced that the Government would phase out the use of such lights in stages leading to a complete ban in 2014.

The Government will stop the import and sale of the bulbs by that date as part of efforts to save power. Incandescent light bulbs, are considered less energy-efficient andnot as environmentally-friendly as compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent tubes and LEDs. Chin said the use of these bulbs would help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 732,000 tonnes a year.

Ong applauded the move by the Government to boost the demand for the local LED industry, adding however that it needed to attract more investors to be able to grow the segment.

Additionally, Ong said Taiwan also offered good prospects in the LED industry.

Taiwanese government has decided to invest 2.8 billion Taiwan dollars (RM297.89mil) within three years to replace the existing 326,000 mercury street lights with LEDs. The move is estimated to generate 4.5 billion Taiwan dollars in production value for the LED lighting industry and save power consumption by 143 million kilowatt-hours per year.

Dialight has announced four of its class-leading LED hazardous location lighting products including the SafeSite? High Bay, Area Light, Wallpack and Emergency Wallpack have achieved Brazil’s INMETRO certification for safe, approved use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 applications, paving the way to penetrate new key market opportunities in Brazil’s expanding petrochemical industries.

With the U.S. Energy Information Administration reporting Brazil as the ninth largest oil producing country in 2010—producing approximately one-third of total oil supply in Central and South America—Dialight’s entry into Brazil’s hazardous location market could not be more welcomed by companies looking to maximize safety and environmental sustainability while improving their bottom lines.

“Once again, Dialight has solidified its position as the market leader in LED technology innovation with proven products that are quickly becoming the lighting standard for the world’s harshest environments,” said Roy Burton, Dialight’s Group Chief Executive.  “Our portfolio of LED lighting fixtures now enables our global customer base to streamline their supply chain with products that virtually eliminate maintenance, dramatically reduce energy consumption and ultimately improve total cost of ownership.”

with mass production in the future

Ong thought that the demand for LED lights was spurred by international events such as the 2008 Olympics. He said that the only challenge facing the LED industry was the higher cost of such products. One of the obstacles is cost. But with mass production in the future, the price will come down.”

LED business except holding dominant stakes for the first time

These policies make both two sides achieve a win-to-win situation. Taiwan’s LED makers get a good opportunity for providing Led linear high bay light replacements for the incandescent bulbs in the mainland. And mainland Chinese enterprises also gain a chance to invest in Taiwan’s LED business except holding dominant stakes for the first time.

The work will start later this month at Sharp's head office in Osaka and some other facilities. In addition, at offices and plants in the Kansai region, where the power supply is expected to be tight this summer, some 60,000 lights will be replaced with LEDs before the end of June.

Herbert Wambsganss, director of engineering, HELLA Interior Lighting Systems, thought that ambient LED lighting will open an entirely new chapter in automotive interior design."Drivers will see significant changes in automotive interior lighting within the next five years -- changes that will improve comfort levels and enhance brand awareness."

HELLA predicts that the use of ambient LED high bay light in North America will more than quadruple over the next five years. "LED lighting technology provides designers with another important way to add value and improve the overall driving experience," the HELLA executive pointed out. "It's a key new ingredient in the interior design equation."

which gulps a lot of money to new LED solutions

A research by Philips has shown that Africa would save up to N1.63 trillion ($10 billion) in energy costs annually, more than 50 million tonnes of carbon and the equivalent output of 35 power stations, if the continent were to switch its existing lighting, currently run on diesel and fuel which gulps a lot of money to new LED solutions, even as these figures only include on-grid lighting where electricity is present.

According to Nick Kelso, senior communications manager, LED solutions when combined with the latest innovations in battery and solar developments provide practical and sustainable light for some 600 million Africans who currently live without electricity. As a result, Philips sees the need for new LED solutions in Africa, and Nigeria is considered as a massive market waiting to be first tapped.

Philips predicts that LED will share 75 per cent in the global lighting market (value) in 2020, a figure derived from both current sales data, including thoughts around future trends.

Now that the price of LED bulbs has dropped

The bulb is designed to replace incandescent bulb with not only the wide beaming angle but also excellent color rendering performance as well. According to the company, the bulb is outfitted with a patented thermal-conductivity mechanism, which can quickly transmit thermal inside the lamp to the Led linear high bay light surface of the lamp’s ceramic base. From the surface the heat is taken away by ambient air. Excellent thermal conductivity design ensures longevity of the bulb.

For the last few years, the high price of LED bulbs has prevented many consumers from investing in the efficient and long lasting bulbs,” said Cal Shirley, vice president of Customer Solutions at PSE. “LED bulbs are a great technology; they save energy and last an incredibly long time. Now that the price of LED bulbs has dropped and with available discounts, the era of the LED bulb has arrived. At PSE we’re doing what we can to support consumer adoption of efficient technology that helps customers save energy and money.”

For each incandescent bulb replaced with an LED bulb, customers save about $6 per year in energy costs. The average household can save $150 a year in energy costs by replacing the 25 most frequently used lights in the home with LED bulbs.

Moreover, the company formed R and G layers whose line widths are 17μm by using the offset printing method and showed a picture of a pixel array that combines the R and G layers and the common vapor-deposited layer.ony also showed its latest OLED panel prototyped by using the offset printing method. Its screen size is 7.4 inches and larger than the screen size of the company's LED high bay light announced one year ago (3 inches). It has a pixel count of 960 x 540 (q-HD) and a resolution of 150ppi. As for OLED materials, a high polymer material is used for its R and G layers and a low-molecular material for its B common vapor-deposited layer.
