Therefore, if LED thermal dissipation substrates could be more cost competitive and offer better dissipation, it would accelerate the development of LED applications.

Recently, CCFL lighting maker Wellypower Optronics’3Q10 revenues made a new record. The consolidated total revenues went up led high bay light, gross profit was NT$270 million with a 12% gross margin. Also, pure income reached NT$171 million (US$5.53 million), up 694% sequentially, EPS was NT$1.01, and operating incomer was NT$142 million.

Wellypower introduced, affected on inventory adjustment in the end-market for LCD panels, consolidated revenues for 3Q had down 1% sequentially. But be benefit from proper control of its costs and product mix amid increasing shipments for large-size products, the company’s gross margin had up to 12% and net profits had a 694% sequential growth.

For LED packaging in the company, it can produce 120 million units with about 70% utilization and ship80 million units every month. Also, Wellypower planed to start capacity expansion in 2011, and the LED Linear high bay light company currently was evaluating the scale for capacity expansion.

Until at the end of 3Q, revenues for LED business had reached NT$1.2 billion, accounting for 53% of its total revenues. But for 4Q revenues, the company thought it would slip slightly compared to 3Q.

Research the adaptability of the LED lighting system

The first screen of its kind, the Diamond Vision OLED, measuring 8.8sqm (3.84 m (w) by 2.3 m (h)) with a depth of just 9.9cm, has been installed at the material Research Center recently opened by the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany.
The new technology is a pioneering step forward, using organic light emitting diodes (OLED) as a light source, which due to its structure and composition is fully scalable and can be arranged into flexible forms and shapes.
The 'Diamond Vision OLED' screen is located in the lobby of Merck’s new research centre. Merck KGaA is one of the leading producers of organic base materials for innovative OLED technology and will use the screen as an information system for presentations and events. It has a resolution of 1,280 x 768 Pixel and weighs around 480kg.
“OLED is literally growing in size and format and has the potential to become the technology of choice for the digital signage industry in the near future. It is a significant achievement that we have been able to develop this pioneering technology with our Japanese colleagues“, explains Lars Dörholt, Deputy Division Manager, Visual Information Systems at Mitsubishi Electric Europe’s German branch.
