the key factor for LED manufacturers to win the market
LEDinside says, the shortage of components is a structure issue. Plus, the current production capacity is beyond its limit. The lack of component surely will continue till end of 2010. Now with long lead times and booming demand, delivery times become the key factor for LED manufacturers to win the market. Under this circumstance, the only LED Linear high bay light, who has long-term supply chain strategy, can satisfy growing market demand with precious delivery time. After all, the lead time is the key element to overcome this crisis.
Compared to other LED lighting manufacturers with incredible long lead time, Aeon Lighting Technology Inc. (ALT) is still capable of keeping three day lead-time with its stable supplier chain, which has been established for several years. The CEO of ALT, James Liang, says, “In order to assure that the product of ALT has the best quality with the shortest lead time, we have spent a fortune stocking good amount of inventory. While the whole industry suffered the shortage of components and long lead-time, we are committed to ship out every single order within 3 to 14 days!” While price of components skyrocketed, ALT has maintained strategic partnership with suppliers to provide all products, including MR16, BR, Streetlight, and T8 tubes, to all clients, in order to protect our clients’ investment.
Aeon Lighting Technology Inc. has cutting-edge heat dissipation technology directly from partnered industrial server manufacturer, and more than 100 patents and safety certifications. Additionally it is the first led high bay light company to receive recognition from IF Product Design Award.Praxair will supply 10-metric-ton ISO container, configured for vapor-phase delivery of the ammonia, which is inherently safer to operate than liquid draw systems to Bridgelux. The high-capacity bulk system is capable of delivering sustained ammonia flow rates over 2,000 standard liters per minute, with a peak flow capacity over 3,000 standard liters per minute.

patent infringing technologies made in China have entered the market
Numerous LED lighting products with inferior quality, shortened lifetime, and patent infringing technologies made in China have entered the market. These products present a tremendous risk to customers' financial responsibility to support maintenance and warranty claims as a result of shortened lifetime or inferior performance as well as providing customers legal protections against infringing a patent. Axiom NZ LED and led high bay light reconfirmed that they are continuing to support the use of high reliability long-lifetime patented LED technology of Nichia LED of Japan and innovative patented weather resistant connector technology by Zeirick of New York. Nichia and Zeirick technologies are used on all Axiom NZ LED and AoTuroa LED white light products.
"It is illegal to sell, buy or even use a knock-off or imitation purse," joked Stephanie Prather, Director of AoTuroaLED Limited. "Knock-off purses are sold on street corners by people avoiding the law. Both sellers as well as buyers know it is illegal, yet they do it anyway. Most times companies are unaware the LED products they bought are cheap and usually inferior knock-offs. Axiom NZ LED and AoTuroaLED using Nichia of Japan LEDs and Zeirick connectors is akin to playing sports fair and honest. Other companies that use LED or electronic products that infringe patents are no different than the illegal practice of playing professional sports using steroids.
We find it amusing that knock off technologies are claiming that Nichia LED patents are expiring—they are not," added Dane Cardone, CEO of AoTuroa LED USA. "That would be like suggesting that Microsoft's patents are expiring because they invented their software in the 1970s. They continue to enhance their intellectual property portfolio by LED high bay lighting patenting more technologies. Microsoft recently issued a license to a HTC, a Chinese/Taiwanese mobile phone company, that was infringing their patents for a product that uses a Google operating system. Nichia like Microsoft protects its intellectual property – at AoTuroaLED and Axiom NZ LED we are proud to use Nichia LEDs.

they have bargained for the price of these key materials
The similar trend is now evident in the supply of consumables, specifically the metal-organic material led high bay light and sapphire wafers. The demand for TMG already exceeds the available supply, therefore manufacturers need to absorb a 20% price increase in the near term.
The paper also predicts that a shortage of sapphire wafers, upon which most blue and white LEDs are produced, is also likely in the second half of 2010. And Taiwan LED manufacturers in particular need to adjust to the new reality of the supply chain. Historically, they have bargained for the price of these key materials.
However, the balance of power in the LED industry has changed, with competitors backed by huge corporations, such as Samsung and LG, much better positioned to absorb higher material costs and to guarantee their supply in a constrained market.Capacity expansions already in progress should relieve these constraints by mid-2011. Until then, the average selling price of high-brightness LEDs based on gallium nitride should hold up well, according to the predict.
Jonathan Reckford, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, noted that Cree is partnering with Habitat affiliates to provide lighting products that enable more energy-efficient homes. Products and materials that reduce energy costs make homes even more affordable for LED high bay lighting partner families and also help to protect the environment. This is going to make a huge impact in helping the company develop sustainable communities.

LED display video walls and cars illuminating the streets with LED headlights
The prospects of the LED market remain bright. Market researchers forecast a threefold increase up to almost 13 billion Euros by 2012 for light emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic LED high bay lighting). These technologies offer a particularly small size, a long lifetime and top levels of energy-efficiency, thus opening up new applications and new markets. As YAHAM CEO Martin Goetzeler proclaimed, “We are shaping the lighting market of the future and we are a leading manufacturer in all stages of the LED value chain. We already achieve 17 percent of our sales with Solid State Lighting. In connection with classic technologies, our LED portfolio of products, systems and solutions will raise energy saving potential for lighting up to 60 percent. This represents a major contribution to climate protection.” The list of LED applications keeps on expanding: architectural lighting, backlight displays, mobile terminal devices, solid state lighting, automotive lighting and many more to come. Today, we already see projectors being lit up by LEDs, advertising boards being replaced by LED display video walls and cars illuminating the streets with LED headlights.
Cost, and more so the talented and experienced workforces are all in favour of Penang when it comes to choosing the site for our new facility,” said Dr Ruediger Mueller, CEO of YAHAM Opto Semiconductors. “But it was also the long-term partnership with the Malaysian authorities that made it the top choice, after all we have operated in Penang for over 30 years.”
The opening ceremony was held on site in Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone of Penang. Representatives of the workforce were also present to witness the momentous event. The employees of the LED linear high bay light assembly plant together with their new colleagues in the chip manufacturing facility were thrilled to be part of the world’s most advanced LED chip plant and the growing market.

the deviation from specific chromaticity coordinates
Since the chromaticity of a white led high bay lights is determined by a combination of many elements configuring the product such as a light-emitting device, phosphor, and encapsulation resin, a complicated process control is also needed to control those elements. We developed Surface Mount LED chips in 1983, and since then we have brought out a wide variety of products as a leading manufacturer of LED packages. Using basic studies and innovations of our accumulated high-precision processing technology and manufacturing technology has allowed us to finally achieve mass production with the chromaticity standard of about a ninth of the conventional chromaticity range by controlling the deviation from specific chromaticity coordinates and “elaborating” the products.
This will enable us to stably produce and offer a white LED that has the least variation in chromaticity while keeping the production cost low by discontinuing the “sorting” process before shipment. We believe that at the destination sites it will be possible to use separate LED colors with high accuracy and that will help to produce quality lighting equipment. Citizen Electronics Co., Ltd will start color control using “3-Step MacAdam ellipses” at the mass production level, taking the initiative in the lighting industry.
Nowadays the use of white LEDs in general lighting is rapidly progressing. There is always a possibility that a great deal of interest will be focused on the LED’s energy-saving performance based on its high luminous efficacy. However, we consider that it is very important to offer quality products stably with no variation in color as well as improving the luminous efficacy. Citizen Electronics Co., Ltd will continue to utilize the “LED linear high bay light” tradition of “Precision Engineering Technology”, and advance the development of high-quality LED products as light sources for general lighting.

In response to the increasing energy price and the global warming problem, LED related application imbued with energy-saving concept is thriving nowadays. To accommodate the growing LED lighting market, many industrial countries established LED related policies to support this prospective industry. After launching CLG-100 series, MEAN WELL introduced another 96W cost effective metal case LED power supplies with active PFC function and IP66 level ~ CEN-100 series.
With special mechanical design, CEN-100 series can meet IP66 requirement perfectly and save the cost of expensive heat-conducting glue. Meanwhile, thanks to the simplified single stage PFC topology, the required high power factor for the lighting industry can be achieved economically. In addition, the upper cover of CEN-100 have two small holes with waterproof structure that users can adjust the output current (75~100%) or voltage (±10%) easily without removing the cover.
The Munich lighting manufacturer’s latest LED innovation is a winner with its warm white light (2,700K), colour-rendering index (CRI) of more than 90 and luminous flux of over 1,800lm while using only 15W of power. With its compact size it is especially suited to integration in downlights or spots. The problem-free reproducibility and stability of its opto-electronic features are particularly worth mentioning. Which means special chromaticity coordinate control techniques can achieve variations below the visual perception threshold. Chromaticity coordinate deviations are within LM-80 guidelines.YAHAM has achieved this efficiency record by bundling the electronic and mechatronic skills of its solid-state lighting (SSL) business unit and the LED expertise of YAHAM Opto Semiconductors in Regensburg (Germany). Measurements were taken at the company’s in-house development laboratory.

the installation of LED lighting fixtures
After the donation of valued ten million NTD lighting fixtures and street lights were given to Zhong-Chen campus, the discarded military campus, to be reconstructed as a victims’ shelter in Ping-Tong County. Robert Yeh also hopes that students in the disaster area will enjoy better learning environment due to the installation of LED lighting fixtures.
In cooperation with the Education Bureau in Taiwan, Everlight keeps donating overall more than 15,000, valued 60 million NTD, sets of LED lighting fixtures. The sponsorship includes solutions from the office lighting series for internal lighting of black boards, offices, hall ways and classrooms and external solution such as the SL Lighting Series for the installation in parks and outdoor areas of public schools in Pintung, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Nantou and Taitung County in Taiwan.
This flood disaster again raised the issue of environmental protection which was not to be paid much attention in the past; with the donations Everlight contributes to its social responsibility and also supports the education of the “green” idea to preserve our nature now and in the future.
According to the acquisition agreement, Green LED Solutions is now merged with Green LED Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hi Score Corp. This re-organization and acquisition will have the result of combining all rights and ownership of the current and pending contracts to the company.

Pursuant to a settlement agreement
The companies also agreed to conclude their patent litigation, which involved a subset of their imaging technologies. Pursuant to a settlement agreement, Kodak and LG will request that the U.S. International Trade Commission terminate the investigations initiated earlier this year following complaints filed by both companies in late 2008.
The special feature of the new products is their temperature-stabilized high-power LED, according to the company. The new calibration LEDs enable customers to check their instruments easily and reliably. It also means that the photometric value can be recalibrated by customers in conformity with the CIE International Commission on Illumination. Before testing is carried out, the LEDs are calibrated using strictly traceable standards for luminous flux and luminous intensity in the Instrument Systems test lab.
The calibration LEDs have a reproducible and stable optical output power that is essential for reliable measurements. They also feature a particularly high photometric stability of 0.1%. The high-power led high bay light is housed in a casing with exceptionally low thermal conductivity together with a TEC element and a temperature sensor in order to achieve this high stability. The high-power LED is also cooled with the assistance of the TEC element. This eliminates sensitivity to external temperature fluctuations and demonstrates significantly reduced degradation behavior by comparison with heated standard LEDs.

The companies have been working closely together for several months
Prior to his speech to students and faculty, President Obama toured three MIT Laboratories, where cutting edge clean energy technologies are being developed with Government research funding. In one, QD Vision Scientific Advisor and Co-Founder Vladimir Bulovic, the KDD Associate Professor of Communications and Technology, demonstrated the Array? Lighting LED lamp with Quantum Light? optic technology to the President.
QD Vision's breakthroughs in very low power solid-state lighting are based on work that got its start in Prof. Bulovic’s MIT laboratory. They exploit the unique light emitting properties of quantum dots to deliver huge reductions in power consumption and dramatic color quality improvements. Unlike the harsh, cold white light typical of today's low-power led high bay light and fluorescent lights, quantum dots can warm up white light and dramatically improve emitted colors, while preserving the high efficiency of LEDs.
The product demonstration by QD Vision and its commercial lighting partner Nexxus Lighting, shows the quality and efficiency improvements in lumen output and color rendering index (CRI) enabled by the Quantum Light? optic when applied to the exit face of a Nexxus Array LED PAR 30 lamp. The companies have been working closely together for several months and expect to start delivering these breakthrough commercial products to market in early 2010.

LED lighting to receive a lower billing rate
The rebate program offers customers two types of incentives for switching existing streetlights to energy-efficient LED technology. The first incentive allows customers who convert to LED lighting to receive a lower billing rate. The second incentive provides the customer a rebate for every led high bay light installed.By using solar technology as an alternative to traditional grid-powered lights, the EverGEN 1500-series lighting system can provide a reliable source of bright uniform illumination while avoiding the costs and challenges typically associated with trenching, cabling, and accessing electrical grid power.
Featuring custom BetaLED? light fixtures, Carmanah solar-powered lights offer superior output and performance in accordance with IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America) guidelines. A full-cutoff "Dark Sky"-friendly design directs light only where needed (preventing glare or spillover of light onto neighboring properties or into the night sky), while integrated energy management capabilities ensure optimal lighting performance year round.
With no bulbs to replace and a five-year battery life, the EverGEN 1500 lights will help Southern California Edison reduce maintenance and operating costs while serving as a lasting, practical investment in renewable energy technology.

The next stage is to integrate the processes into a stable manufacturing operation
Though the 17 x 17 cm² modules will have to be made larger they already have many of the properties that distinguish OLEDs from other light sources. They are extremely slim and no longer need expensive encapsulation. Their thickness is now defined only by the substrate as the carrier material – at present this is between 300 and 700 µm.
“Transparent OLEDs and flexible led high bay light at a later date will add an entirely new aesthetic dimension to lighting solutions”, said Dr. Karsten Heuser, head of the OLED division at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. “The possibilities range from light sources that can be integrated in room dividers and furniture, for example, to entire windows that would allow natural light in during the day and flood the room with light at night.”
The OLED panels can be made transparent without any detracting structures. This is thanks to new developments in electrode design, a special component architecture and a new approach to thin-film technology. Without any additional conductor path structures on the light-emitting surface, the current is distributed evenly over the active surface, which in turn leads to uniform luminance. The new technology also simplifies the manufacturing process. The next stage is to integrate the processes into a stable manufacturing operation.
Current OLEDs are being showcased at PLDC (Professional Lighting Design Convention) from October 29 to 31, 2009 in Berlin to demonstrate the latest state of development.

daylight viewable indicators are engineered for outdoor applications
Many of our developments are designed and tested in the mining world, which I believe is the most abusive environments around. If you have a light that is considered standard equipment lighting in copper, coal or iron ore mining, you really have something that can take the extremes in vibration, temperature and overall filth. The LED10W series of LED lights has been developed for this application and so we know that is will perform well on the ocean or on the battlefield.
Dialight, the applied led high bay light technology specialist, now offers a flat and domed version of the successful 657 series panel-mount indicator. LED certification requirements by minimizing light trespass
The EvoLucia(TM) LED Cobra Head fixtures meet all IES roadway standards, and the company recently submitted numerous samples to domestic municipalities and foreign countries for inspection. The new EvoLucia(TM) fixture is the first LED Cobra Head in the industry to reach six mounting heights. The fixture was developed utilizing Sunovia's proprietary "aimed optics" platform and leading thermal management technologies. The company's proprietary "aimed optics" platform allows company designers to develop unique fixtures that precisely focus light to a specified location, virtually eliminating glare and light pollution. By combining the precisely aimed optics technologies with advanced thermal management techniques, the company achieves a higher light utilization that illuminates targeted areas more efficiently. This is particularly important for roadway lighting applications as increased visibility is critical to roadway safety. EvoLucia's "aimed optics" direct illumination method also allows the fixtures to meet Dark Sky guidelines and LED certification requirements by minimizing light trespass, reducing sky-glow, and reducing the impact on nocturnal and wildlife environments.

the company′s existing portfolio of materials for LED applications
One important application for Makrolon? in this segment is that of lenses that bundle and guide the light from the LEDs. The specifications for such products are very strict: high purity, optimal light transmission, economical processing and, depending on the particular end use, additional properties such as flame retardance. The latest research product in Bayer MaterialScience’s LED portfolio is a material that is resistant to UV radiation and also has better transparency than the conventional polycarbonate grades currently used in outdoor applications in the lens segment.
These lenses are one example of an application that can benefit from the unique properties of Bayer MaterialScience′s new grade of Makrolon polycarbonate resin. The new grade was developed as a UV-stabilized, high light-transmission addition to the company′s existing portfolio of materials for LED applications.Bayer Material Science already manufactures a number of polycarbonate grades for the LED market which boast not only very high light transmittance but also good heat resistance and excellent stability under LED lighting current. All these products have special characteristics that are ideal for many LED applications.LED is the product with the highest light transmittance and is ideal for refractive optics, lenses, and light pipes and guides where, despite greater wall thicknesses or longer light paths, high transmission is specified. The Makrolon? LED 2245 grade has similar overall characteristics but slightly improved physical properties and a lower melt flow index. Both grades conduct white light up to a length of around 300 mm without any significant transmission losses.
The alliance allows Innolux to lower its production costs of LED monitors with sufficient supply of more economical LED chips secured by the partner. On the other hand, Nichia is also expected to benefit from its growing influence on the global market of LED backlights via the cooperation. After the alliance, quotations of Innolux LED monitors are surprisingly at the same levels as those of traditional CCFL models, and HP and Dell have increased their orders with the firm, according to the report. Having shipped 24.5 million LED monitors so far this year, the firm expects to reach its original annual shipment goal of 37 million units, or even more than 40 million units for this year.Designed as a compact stand-alone lighting alternative for off-grid parking lots and other municipal, commercial or industrial areas, the new EverGEN 1710 light combines advanced motion-sensing capabilities with a range of energy saving operating profiles to ensure bright, reliable illumination whenever and wherever it’s needed.

the flexible LED light strips are also ideal for commercial
Visible Light Solar is the first commercial and industrial lighting company to fully integrate LED lighting devices, solar power technology and advanced power management systems in exterior and interior lighting fixtures. The company's broad line of solar/LED lighting applications operate up to 85 percent more efficiently than their standard counterparts. In addition to dramatically lowering energy consumption, Visible Light Solar's LED solutions reduce ongoing maintenance costs through much longer lifetime expectancy than HID bulbs (five to 10 years versus one year for most HID bulbs). The bulbs are also resistant to thermal and vibrational shocks, and because they do not contain toxic materials like mercury, or require ballasts that often contain PCBs, they are more environmentally sustainable.
Our concept included a Plexiglass panel with sandblasted designs, and OPTEK’s LEDs were placed in the frame of each panel to provide just the right amount of light to illuminate the bridge without excessive light pollution to the surrounding areas,” said Matt Poisel, civil engineering student at North Carolina State University. “We won the competition and were able to build our proposed bridge. Without OPTEK’s donation, this project would not have been the success that it was.”
In addition to bridge lighting, the flexible LED light strips are also ideal for commercial and residential illumination, under-counter lighting, media illumination, large area backlighting, small to medium channel letters, point of sale displays, and neon replacement lighting.

cities have carried out LED streetlamp demonstration projects
Restricted by the high prices of LED, undetermined industrial standard and unsolved problems as lighting shapes, lifetimes and reliabilities, the market scale of the global LED lighting industry in 2007 was only 330 million USD. Among them, the building lighting application is the primary market resource with a scale of 350 million USD, accounting for about 45% of the whole market scale. With the improvement of LED technologies and the broadness of LED application areas, it is estimated that the market scale in 2012 will reach 1.6 billion USD and the compound growth rate from 2007 to 2012 will reach 35%.
Besides in the lighting area, LEDs are also widely used in backlights, displays, automobile markets and transport information areas. According to statistics, Chinese domestic LED industry remains an annual growth rate of over 20% in recent years.China Ministry of Science and Technology has put National Semiconductor Lighting Project on the Eleventh Five-year Development Program of Science and Technology and authorized 5 LED industrial bases in Shanghai, Dalian, Nanchang, Xiamen and Shenzhen. At present, Beijing, Guangdong, Fujian, Shaanxi, Liaoning and other cities have carried out LED streetlamp demonstration projects.
The T9 light tubes are easy to install and are available in three white color temperatures, 3300k (cool white), 4200k (neutral white) and 6500k (warm white) and are sold in lengths of 1 to 5 feet. These 24V tubes are available in both 50o and 100o viewing angles and each tube includes two mounting hardware options which can rotate up to 120o. motion sequences by comparing two consecutive frames
All FX5 sets come with NuVision's own FX5 and FFM technologies. FX5 eliminates the need for the 3:2 pull down algorithm found in 60Hz displays, by recreating each frame five times, thus utilizing the 120Hz and high refresh rate of the panels. Many other LCD manufactures deploy black-frame insertion or simply attempt to double the frames in an attempt to achieve 120Hz. This works adequately when a motion sequence moves from left to right on the screen, but if it is reversed, the display reverts to its original 60Hz picture.FFM is instrumental in creating clear, flicker-free fast sports and motion sequences by comparing two consecutive frames and generating additional interpolated frames. And for an additional benefit, NuVision makes it easy to shut both functions off completely to control any latency issues that may occur. The new Lucidium FX5LS Series comes complete with a full, two-year manufacturer's warranty on all parts and labor.

our customers can quickly and easily change their message
Utilizing its proprietary Ultra Low Distortion Solid State Power Supply technology, the fixtures to be developed over the next 11 months will replace inefficient incandescent fixtures. Beyond efficiency, life, and maintenance specifications, the fixtures must meet the Navy's new stringent requirements for LED systems which include light output, shock and vibration, corrosion, EMC and EMI compliance. "The SSL lights developed under this grant will save a significant amount of energy and maintenance. As an example, using only 26 watts, a new LED fixture saves 76% (or 84W) over the incandescent fixture it replaces. In addition, we fully expect that bulb replacement will become a thing of the past with the LEDs' projected lifetime of up to 50,000 hours or more," commented Roger Buelow, Energy Focus CTO.
Porlier Outdoor Advertising Co., located in the western suburbs of St. Louis, Mo., has installed two digital billboards manufactured by Watchfire Digital Outdoor. The 19mm 14’x48’ billboards are located in heavily traveled, highly visible locations in St. Charles County, a bedroom community of St. Louis.Since the digital billboards went live, Porlier Outdoor has stuck to a very specific sales strategy that differs from how they sell their vinyl billboards. “We see digital billboards as a direct replacement for television, radio and print advertisements,” said Brent Porlier, president of Porlier Outdoor. “With digital billboards, our customers can quickly and easily change their message, the boards are attention-grabbing, and unlike other mediums, the audience can’t change the channel or turn the page.”
Watchfire Digital Outdoor produces the industry’s only 19mm pixel pitch billboard—which packs 768 LEDs into every sq. ft.—and is capable of producing 281 trillion colors. It fully encapsulates the LED module in a thick bed of silicone gel, which enables the LED boards to operate in extreme weather conditions: 180+ days completely submerged in water, 60 days in a salt-spray chamber, and temperatures ranging from -40° F to 120° F. In areas where heat and humidity are both high, the silicone gel encapsulation protects the boards from humidity and moisture, greatly improving projected reliability. The PAR20 LED bulbs are engineered to last 50,000 hours. The bulbs are also environmentally responsible as they consume less energy than standard bulbs, and are lead free and contain no mercury. These lights generate very little heat and emit no UV rays which make them an ideal choice for the museum and retail industry. These lights are also perfect for store fronts and point of purchase displays which are typically illuminated for long hours.

reduce labor costs associated with bulb replacement
Performance LED bulbs contain high-powered solid state LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that are harnessed with ocular lenses to produce bright directional light output suitable for both distance and close-range uses in general lighting applications. They are true replacements for their halogen and incandescent counterparts based on the light output they offer, but they last up to 30,000 hours and use up to 90% less energy. They save money, increase convenience and, where applicable, reduce labor costs associated with bulb replacement.
Additional benefits of Performance LED light bulbs include resistance to shock and vibration (no filament), no mercury (no special disposal requirements), no UV emissions (no color fading of artwork or attracting of insects) and no warm up time for illumination or full brightness.
Under increasing demands for LED backlights for LCD TV and notebook computers, the board of directors at Epistar Corp. recently approved to issue 110-135 million units of global depository receipt (GDR) to raise some NT$10 billion (US$303 million at US$1:NT$33) to build up inventories of materials for the blooming market, according to Taiwan Economic News. Some industry watchers believe Epistar would use the GDR offering to attract foreign shareholders. Epistar will set the issuance date and price in two weeks, according to the report.

the typical metal halide fixture they replace
As part of a Phase II energy conservation and sustainability project underway throughout campus, ASU's partner APS Energy Services replaced over 2,000, 150 W metal halide fixtures with Lighting Science's 78 W LED low bay luminaires. By replacing existing metal halide fixtures and lamps, ASU will reduce its energy consumption by 1.5 million kW hours, which is equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions from 208 passenger vehicles.
Lighting Science's pyramid-shaped LED fixtures are made up of 108 light sources, whereby if one light source dims or fails, other light sources remain to provide a reliable level of illumination. The new fixtures are also less costly to maintain because they last 50,000 hours, or approximately three times longer than the typical metal halide fixture they replace.
announced that it has launched its new narrow optic (25 degree Beam Angle) product offering for its Par 30, Par 16 and MR16 Array? LED replacement lamp line and that it has received purchase orders valued at over $565,000 for Array? lamps in the last 60 days.
“Momentum is building on this exciting new product line, and with the launch of our much anticipated 25 degree lens offering – we are now able to address applications needing a more direct focus of light; including spot lighting of merchandise for retail stores, track lighting, and numerous other spot / accent lighting applications,” stated Mike Bauer, President & CEO of Nexxus Lighting.

There are useful similarities in the underlying design
There are useful similarities in the underlying design and manufacturing technology for quantum dot solar cells and other printed electronics applications such as batteries, sensors, conductors, lighting, logic and memory," he said.
Squires noted LED/OLED displays will likely emerge as the second most significant market for printed electronics.
"When you can leverage a single enabling technology, such as our semiconductor quantum dots, to enter two or more different, but massive, markets without straying from your core competencies, the business opportunity is very compelling," he said.
Squires said there is a frenzied pace of amazing discoveries in light-related applications. However, it was clear new work would be limited in commercial application by raw material costs. Access to high quality, affordable quantum dots emerged as the key ingredient for a number of these exciting developments. When coupled with high-throughput, inexpensive manufacturing such as screen printing, we believe wide market penetration is inevitable.
The University of Arizona pioneering technology makes significant improvements over prior art. Organic LED / OLED based displays now have the potential to be manufactured using very high volume, low cost roll-to-roll print processing on inexpensive substrates.
In addition to the potential to deliver a significantly lower price point, this technology can also provide, higher definition, increased viewing angles, lower power consumption and reduced response time for an enhanced picture, all in a very thin, light weight, format. These characteristics enable display technologies to flourish in environments that have previously been uneconomical or simply not viable.

small retailers who are committed to reducing the energy costs
The hysteretic control function of the HV9918 maintains a constant output current to the LED string at all times, regardless of input voltage fluctuations. LEDs are proven to be far more reliable and long lasting when driven by a constant current than by a direct voltage source. It drives loads of up to 1.0A at over 90% efficiency with +/-5% current accuracy from input voltages of 4.5 to 40V. The IC also features an embedded FET for cost and parts count reduction in solid-state lighting applications.
“Supertex’s HV9918 provides fast transient load response and eliminates the need for feedback-loop compensation,” states Ahmed Masood, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. “With its built-in switching FET, this device reduces overall system cost and board space while delivering accurate current control for LED lighting applications.”
The Wal-Mart Superstore, the first retail store to feature light-emitting diode (LED) parking lot site lighting, based on specifications developed by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Retailer Energy Alliance, will reopen on July 15, 2009, in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Superstore will serve as a test site to determine the viability of expanding LED parking lot lights at Wal-Mart stores nationwide.
Wal-Mart is one of 43 retailers that are actively engaged in DOE's Net-Zero Commercial Building Initiative (CBI) as members of the DOE Retailer Energy Alliance (REA). REA members work with DOE and the national laboratories to advance the development and market adoption of net-zero energy commercial buildings. The alliance has attracted large and small retailers who are committed to reducing the energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and overall operating risks of retail businesses. The primary aim of DOE's energy alliances is to create specifications for promising energy efficiency technologies, test their viability in order to encourage use, and drive down costs.

visible lighting applications that require concentrated, high-intensity light
Unilux products are built around stroboscopic surface inspection lighting that enables operators to spot defects at full production speeds, which can exceed 750 meters per minute (2,200 feet per minute). Operators can use their knowledge of products and production systems to determine the severity of the defect and take steps to find and eliminate its cause. The company has combined its high-speed inspection lighting with high-speed video and photography systems to provide engineering departments with visual data to develop long-term solutions to repetitive production problems.
Lumex announces the global launch of their QuasarBrite Narrow Beam SMT LEDs providing users with a tight beam of high-intensity red, green or blue light. Compared to traditional SMT LEDs, these Narrow Beam SMT LEDs allow for a 93% reduction in beam angle, making the technology ideal for medical device, security, sensor and visible lighting applications that require concentrated, high-intensity light.
"Despite their many advantages, SMT LEDs traditionally could not provide a narrow beam of light without the use of external optics," explained Jeff Oliveros, Director of Engineering, at Lumex. "Thanks to QuasarBrite Narrow Beam SMT LEDs, this is no longer the case. Whereas traditional SMT LEDs offered a light beam of ±45 to ±85 degrees, QuasarBrite Narrow Beam SMT LEDs provide a light beam of ±6 to ±10 degrees ? up to a93% reduction in beam angle."
With QuasarBrite Narrow Beam SMT LEDs, the LED is mounted upside down and shines directly into an internal parabolic reflector providing high-intensity brightness in a narrow beam of light without the need for external optics. As such, QuasarBrite Narrow Beam SMT LEDs can provide a 50% cost savings and 50% real estate savings when compared to traditional SMT LEDs that rely on external optics to achieve a tight beam of light. The elimination of the need for external optics also significantly simplifies manufacturing processes, resulting in additional cost savings.

light output in a smaller space and a wider spread of light
The company executives noted that LED-backlit LCD TVs are focused for their slim design, energy efficiency, and eco-friendliness.The RXD2 is based on an innovative multi-chip LED light source. Unlike conventional high-output LEDs, this technology incorporates multiple LEDs in a single package, giving increased light output in a smaller space and a wider spread of light.
Effective thermal management is provided by proven pure-water heat-pipe cooling technology, which transfers heat away from the back of the LED source to the cooling fins. This advanced method eliminates the need for large, heavy heat sinks and helps the RXD2 to achieve a maintenance-free life of 50,000 hours.Available with 1-10V dimming as a standard option, the downlight comes in round and square versions and can be specified as trimless or with white, silver or chrome bezels. It also offers a choice of 2900K warm white or 5000K cool white illumination, with efficacy values of 54 or 59 lumens per circuit watt, respectively.
The Axent RXD2 is a compact and lightweight fitting, and its body height of only 86mm makes it particularly suitable for use in restricted ceiling voids. The investment, mainly for encouraging environment-related industries and technologies such as renewable energy, LEDs (light-emitting diodes), smart power grids and hybrid cars, is expected to create up to 1.81 million jobs, the government said. The investment is a move in the right direction as it signals the government's intention to boost its competitiveness by leading in the greentech sector," said Yong-Jin Kim, Head of Global Business Group at Daishin Investment Trust Management.Korea could be a niche player in the global greentech market as it promotes its LEDs and other manufacturing industries such as the auto industry with the focus on doing research to make production processes environmentally friendly.

The NCP5680 enables the Li-ion battery to support more power-hungry functions for a longer time.
NCP5680 complements the Li-ion battery by supplying high-peak-current of up to 10A for flash lighting optimized for use with the BriteFlash Power Architecture developed by CAP-XX. Fully programmable control of charging and discharging of the supercapacitor and unique overload protection ensure the right amount of light is provided for high-quality photography. The integrated driver can also power other high-peak-current circuits in portable systems, such as audio amplifiers, extending the useful battery operating time.To produce high-resolution pictures in low-light conditions, cameras of 5Mpixels or more require a high-intensity flash. Today's white LEDs can deliver this level of light energy, but require up to 400 percent more power than a camera battery can provide. To support the battery, the NCP5680 manages a supercapacitor to drive the LED flash to full intensity, supplying high-peak-current up to 10A. The integrated driver in the NCP5680 also manages the supercapacitor to handle other peak-power needs: zoom, auto-focus, audio, video, wireless transmissions, GPS readings and RF amplification.
The NCP5680 integrates all circuitry required to charge the supercapacitor, manage in-rush current and control LED current, thus saving designers development time, board space and component cost. Fully programmable control of charging and discharging of the supercapacitor ensures the right amount of light for high-quality photography. The I2C registers in the NCP5680 allow users to adjust the output current and flash duration of each of the two LEDs in real time. Hence, this solution can perform different lighting effects such as indicator light, pre-flash, and power flashlight for photographing and torchlight for video recording. When connecting to an ambient light sensor, the NCP5680 will automatically limit the flash duration to prevent photo over-exposure, thus preserving the photo quality. Additionally, the supercapacitor charging current is adjustable through an I2C register. NCP5680 can disable the charging operation during global system for mobile (GSM) transmission to limit the current drawn from the battery.

For outdoor pole-mounted area and roadway luminaires, application requirements are a minimum light output from the luminaire of 1,000 lumens (initial), and a minimum FTE that varies according to whether the luminaires are shielded or unshielded, high output or low.Luminaire types in this application include but are not limited to luminaires intended for lighting streets, parking lots, walkways, and plazas, and also decorative post-top luminaires. This category excludes luminaires intended to be mounted below eye level, e.g., bollards and steplights.Through the COB (Chip On Board) manufacturing process, low power multi chips are placed directly on aluminum board and packaged with a light guide structure and diffuser that may generate 20~30% more light output than other COB packaging. Compared with multi high power LED, iLEDm’s LEM product presents an even lighting and creates no stack image. The patent of the current design has been applied for in Taiwan, China, Japan, America and Europe.
Another advantage for iLEDm’s LEM is its heat dissipation. By using multi low power chips on aluminum board, heat spreads evenly across the surface of the board instead of using high power chips. Heat solution may also be solved more easily by using iLEDm’s product.LEDm Photoelectronics Inc is aim to be the best lighting source provider in LED lighting industry. iLEDm provides LEM in long, square and round shapes. a keen interested observer of the path of solid-state lighting
Minister Smitherman acknowledged Scott Riesebosch, President of CRS, for his efforts, commenting, “These new MR16 LED lights will save of 80% of the energy used by current Halogen lights.” The picture shows the two men together.Ken Elsey, President and CEO of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA), a keen interested observer of the path of solid-state lighting, applauded Minister Smitherman for this renewed green activity in Ontario. In addition, Cree and RFHIC have entered into a market development agreement to facilitate deeper market penetration of GaN HEMT solutions by leveraging Cree's expertise in GaN transistor production on SiC and its MMIC foundry capability and RFHIC's leadership position in innovative packaging, amplifier integration and volume assembly capabilities.
"This important relationship is designed to allow both Cree and RFHIC to expand their market presence and accelerate the insertion of GaN HEMT technology into a number of key, volume applications," said Dr. Cengiz Balkas, vice president and general manager of Cree's Power and RF business unit. The combination of Cree's and RFHIC's core strengths can accelerate GaN HEMT market penetration in cellular infrastructure, two-way communication, CATV amplifier, and a variety of other emerging market segments. It provides a wide range of options in hardware integration levels to best address customer needs," said Jim Milligan, director of RF and microwave products at Cree.Cree's GaN-on-SiC HEMT process is the most mature GaN HEMT process in the market. We initially pursued a GaN-on-Si HEMT approach but converted our product line and future direction to Cree's GaN-on-SiC HEMT technology based on its superior thermal and electrical characteristics as well as its outstanding robustness and reliability. RFHIC aims to offer cost-effective, GaN HEMT amplifier solutions to the market, and Cree GaN-on-SiC HEMT is the clear winner for our product plans," commented Dr. Samuel Cho, RFHIC's chief technology officer.
The 25° beam LED bulb runs on a voltage ranging from 85 to 260 VAC and can be used anywhere in the world. Other voltages like 12 VAC or VDC are optionally available for qualified customers. The rugged lamp is a direct screw-in replacement for 50- to 75-W PAR30 incandescent or halogen bulbs, but typically has a maximum power draw of only 8.5 W.
